Machu Picchu Packing List


  1. Backpack and day pack. A back pack may not be needed if you can carry all but 15 lbs. in your day pack.  ( Your porter will carry 15 lbs. of your equipment. But anything else will have to be carried by you.)
  2. Sleeping Bag rated to temperatures as low as -10ºC (they will provide at a cost of $20 extra if you do not have one or do not want to bring your sleeping bag)
  3. Double-thickness foam mattress (will be provided to you but you have to carry it or your porter, it weighs approx 2.2 lbs.)
  4. Rain jacket (day pack)
  5. Strong footwear is important that they are comfortable and well worn-in and not brand new. You will get blisters if they are new and out in this environment, this will lead to infection. NO trekking in sandals.
  6. One complete change of clothing for the trek
  7. Change of clothing for Cusco
  8. Swim suit for the white water rafting
  9. Sweater
  10. Jacket or coat (It will be hot during the day and very cold at night)
  11. Water bottle or camel- back for water
  12. Sterilizing tablets or excellent rated micro filter for the water
  13. Head lamp or flashlight and batteries
  14. Broad-brim or peaked cap
  15. Sunblock
  16. Insect repellent
  17. Toiletries
  18. Toilet paper as there is none on the trail. (Day pack)
  19. Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits etc. that you will carry in your day pack.
  20. Camera and spare batteries (nowhere to charge your camera during the trek. Carry in your day pack.)
  21. Antiseptic/anti-bacterial hand gel or wipes to clean your hands each time after using the camp toilets and before eating.
  22. If you want to bring trekking poles, they MUST be covered in rubber tips. No exceptions.
